We are pleased to invite you to join us for our 2009 General Members Meeting. This exclusive, members-only gathering is your opportunity to meet the new members of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Japan Society, and to learn about our plans for the future.
After our short presentation, we will be joined by Dr. Tsuneo Akaha, Director of the Monterey Institute's Center for East Asian Studies, for his talk "Japan's Security Policy in the Obama Era: Balancing Soft and Hard Power."
This will be followed by a reception.

He specializes in Japanese foreign and security policy, international relations of the Asia Pacific, and international political economy. Dr. Akaha is the author/editor of numerous books including _Japan in Global Ocean Politics, The Future of North Korea,_ and _Politics and Economics in Northeast Asia: Nationalism and Regionalism in Contention_. He holds a PhD and MA in International Relations from the University of Southern California; a BA in Political Science from Oregon State University; and a BA in Political Science from Waseda University, Tokyo.
