Japan: The G8 Presidency in 2008

With the World Affairs Council, we are proud to welcome Consul General Yasumasa Nagamine for a discussion on the upcoming Group of Eight (G8) Summit in Hokkaido, Japan. Comprised of the eight leading industrialized nations, the annual G8 Summit provides the leaders of these nations with the opportunity to freely and vigorously exchange opinions on a variety of issues facing the global community. Mr. Nagamine will discuss Japan’s efforts to address global environmental issues, highlighting Japan’s ‘Cool Earth 50’ proposal, an initiative to half global emissions by 2050 and create an effective framework beyond 2012. Mr. Nagamine will also touch on development issues, including the Millennium Development Goals.
