Kabuki Lecture & Demonstration

Saturday, October 17, 2009

The Japan Society is pleased to support Kabuki: Backstage to Hanamichi, a behind-the-scenes look at the color, magic and drama of kabuki. Two celebrated kabuki actors, Kyozo Nakamura and Matanosuke Nakamura, will provide a rare glimpse into the world of this centuries-old theater. This special lecture and demonstration will include performances of two kabuki dance classics: Sagi Musume (The Heron Maiden) and Shakkyo (Lion Dance), which will highlight the lyrical style of the onnagata (actor specializing in female roles) with dynamic, acrobatic style.
