Manyo-Zome
Friday, March 14, 2008
We are excited to cosponsor a lecture and demonstration on Manyo-Zome by Master Chozo Kita of Kyoto.
Manyo-Zome is a style of an ancient Japanese dyeing technique that utilizes plants and other natural sources to create dyes. Master Kita uses particular varieties of rice to recreate the colors found in the Nara period (AD 710-794).
Master Kita, who hails from three generations of master dyers, will demonstrate this dyeing technique and share his knowledge of Manyo-Zome.
