Atsushi Saito, President and CEO of the Tokyo Stock Exchange Group and a leader in corporate governance reform in Japan, will discuss the most recent developments in Japanese corporate governance and shareholder rights. The Japan Society is pleased to inaugurate its Japanese Corporate Governance Forum series by bringing this key figure in the debate on corporate governance to San Francisco in cooperation with the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco’s Asia Financial Forum.
Atsushi Saito spent 35 years with Nomura Securities, serving on the board and as Deputy President. He subsequently headed Sumitomo Life Investment with 10 trillion yen in pension capital under management. In April 2003, Mr. Saito was named President of the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan, where he played a role in resolving the country’s non-performing loan problem. He was appointed President and CEO of the Tokyo Stock Exchange Group in 2007. An advocate of financial sector liberalization, Mr. Saito was an architect of the Japanese “Big Bang” under Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto.
