*Wednesday, April 8, 2009* Let’s learn about one of the traditional Japanese arts, _“Shodo”_ (calligraphy), the art of writing _kanji_ and _kana_ characters beautifully with an ink-dipped brush. With an overview of the history of Japanese calligraphy, our expert Mr. Hideo Muranaka will demonstrate how to write Japanese characters with _fude_ (brush) and _sumi_ (ink). In this hands-on workshop, students will try their hand at the art of lines and feel the beauty of Japanese writing. Mr. Muranaka will introduce key Japanese vocabulary used in the art of calligraphy. *Mr. Hideo Muranaka* is currently teaching Art of Japanese Writing and Calligraphy at San Francisco State University. He earned his Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Tokyo University of the Arts.
