JLPT N1&N2 Preparatory Course - San Francisco

The Japan Society is proud to offer Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) preparatory courses. Designed for non-native speakers of Japanese, JLPT is an internationally accredited language examination that measures communicative competences in accomplishment of tasks. It is offered once a year on the first Sunday of December. (It is scheduled on 12/4 this year.)

This class is a comprehensive preparatory course for the N1 & N2 exam; the examinee should choose the level that best matches his or her ability and training.

Each proficiency test is made up of three sections: vocabulary - grammar (60 points); listening (60 points); reading (60 points). The contents and criteria of the tests are as follows:

LEVEL 1:

Language Knowledge (Vocabulary/Grammar)・Reading: 110 minutes
Listening: 60 minutes

The Level 1 examinee has mastered grammar to a high level, knows about 2,000 Kanji and 10,000 words, and has an integrated command of the language sufficient for life in Japanese society. This level is normally reached after studying Japanese for about 900 hours.

LEVEL 2:

Language Knowledge (Vocabulary/Grammar)・Reading: 105 minutes
Listening: 50 minutes

The Level 2 examinee has mastered grammar at a relatively high level, knows about 1,000 Kanji and 6,000 words, and has the ability to converse, read, and write about matters of a general nature. This level is normally reached after studying Japanese for about 600 hours and finishing an intermediate course.
