Japan Relief Benefit: Artist Talk with Ken Matsumoto

To honor the resilient spirit of the people of Japan, the Iwasawa Oriental Art gallery and the Japan Society are pleased to host a Japan relief benefit with sculptor Ken Matsumoto. Please join us on Saturday, June 4 for an afternoon artist lecture and exclusive meet and greet hors d’oeuvre reception with Mr. Matsumoto.

Ken Matsumoto is a well-established Bay Area artist with an extensive track record of solo and group exhibitions since the mid-1980s. His work has been showcased at a number of large corporate and government institutions including Apple Computer, Hewlett-Packard, Syntex, Saks Fifth Avenue, Price Waterhouse, the City of San Jose, the City of Sacramento, and Merrill Lynch. Mr. Matsumoto is the Director of Art Object Gallery in San Jose. He holds an MFA in sculpture from San Jose State University.

Mr. Matsumoto’s stone sculpture works will be on view at Iwasawa Oriental Art from May 12 to June 30, 2011.

Kumiko Iwasawa Vadas, the proprietor of Iwasawa Oriental Art, commissioned the design and construction of the traditional Japanese building in 1982 to house the collection of Japanese antiquities. Ms. Iwasawa Vadas is the regional chairperson of International Netsuke Society and the founder of Netsuke & Japanese Art Online Research Center. Iwasawa Oriental Art offers identification and appraisal services.

The registration deadline for this event has passed. Please call us with inquiries at 415-986-4383. This event is kindly hosted by Iwasawa Oriental Art. The Japan Society will donate 50% of all ticket sales to the JSNC Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. Advanced registration is required for this event, and the registration deadline is Tuesday, May 31, 2011.
