The Japan Society is proud to offer Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) preparatory courses. Designed for non-native speakers of Japanese, JLPT is an internationally accredited language examination that measures communicative competences in accomplishment of tasks. It is offered once a year on the first Sunday of December.
In Palo Alto, we will be offering a comprehensive preparatory course for N3 and N4; the examinee should choose the level that best matches his or her ability and training.

The Japan Society is happy to offer a new course for learning Japanese and Japanese culture through Japanese pop culture. This class is targeted on students who have passed JLPT N4 or equivalent. The popular Anime and Manga 「Gake no ue no Ponyo」(「崖の上のポニョ」), 「Bleach」(「ブリーチ」)and 「Kimi ni Todoke」(「君に届け」) are the selected teaching materials for this course. The vocabulary and grammatical structures expressed in the materials will be presented and practiced. Listening comprehension will be reinforced using the audio/visual materials. The demeanor/behavior of the characters, the content of their conversation and its context in Anime and Manga will be discussed in the class to help you understand unique aspects of Japanese culture.

This course is designed for those who would like to develop their conversational skills and prepare for JLPT N3/ N4 as well. Approximately 30 to 40 minutes of the class time will be allocated to drill exercises for the JLPT criteria and the remaining time will be spent on conversational skills and listening comprehension to increase your fluency. The language skills required for N4 level will be focused in the summer term and the N3 skills are scheduled to be studied in the fall term.
